CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Melissa Matsuoka was named Most Valuable Player after she won all four of her singles matches to lead Corona del Mar to a third-place finish Saturday.
Corona del Mar’s Katelyn Nguyen also earned all-tournament honors.
Dana Hills won the 16-team tournament title, defeating Palm Desert on games, 53-45, after a 4-4 tie.
CdM defeated Sage Hill, 8-0, in the first round Friday, then upset the No. 3-seeded Palos Verdes, 5-3, in the second round. Palm Desert beat the Sea Kings, 5-3, in the semifinals. CdM finished with a 5-3 win over University in the third-place match.
The Lightning also lost to Laguna Beach, 8-0, and Santa Barbara, 8-0. They nearly beat Beverly Hills, but lost on games after a 4-4 tie.

NEWPORT BEACH — Farrel South scored five goals and Dane Sequiera had five assists for the Sailors in the nonleague game Sturday.
Blake Kelly added two goals and two assists for Newport Harbor (15-3). Sailors’ goalie Chris Whitelegge recorded 10 saves.
