Police Files:

A 45-year-old Newport Beach man called police last week and reported that he had just fought off several men trying to force their way into his home just before 1 a.m. July 17.

The incident occurred in the 100 block of White Cap Lane in Newport Beach.

The homeowner told police he held the robbers back while they choked him and hit him with the butt of a gun trying to get in. They eventually retreated and got away in a black American-model car.

Enclave Circle: A suspicious person was reported in the 400 block at 12:46 a.m. Wednesday.

Santa Isabel Avenue: A person was reported driving under the influence in the 100 block at 10:32 a.m. Wednesday.

Airway Avenue: A grand theft was reported in the 3100 block at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday.

South Coast Drive: A burglary was reported in the 900 block at 6:27 p.m. Wednesday.

West Baker Street: A vehicle was reported stolen in the 600 block at 7:58 p.m. Wednesday.
