Spend quality time together at camp

Families can hike, eat s’mores and sing around the campfire at the city of Huntington Beach’s fourth annual overnight camp-out July 11 in Central Park.

The camp-out will have music, crafts, food and games. Families can also participate in organized activities, like three-legged races, according to Dottie Hughes, city recreation supervisor.

Residents will eat hot dogs and chili for dinner and hang out around the campfire roasting marshmallows and singing at night. Local librarians will be on hand to tell stories before lights out at 10 p.m.

In the morning, a pancake breakfast will be provided by the Lions Club, before kids will be set loose in the Adventure Playground to slide into a pit of mud, build forts and play on zip lines and rope swings, according to Hughes.

Families can rent 10-by-10-foot spaces for $10 plus $10 a person. Pre-registration is required and all spaces are currently full, but interested families can add their names to the wait list at any community center, Hughes said.

The event starts at noon July 11 and ends at 11 a.m. July 12. Call (714) 536-5486.
