Police arrest four DUI suspects

Costa Mesa police will continue on their binge of DUI checkpoints next month, following two months of success and getting inebriated drivers off the road.

In their latest setup, a DUI checkpoint on Harbor Boulevard and Fair Drive last week racked four arrests for allegedly being under the influence out of 32 people screened for possibly driving while intoxicated. Officers stopped 516 cars at the checkpoint and cited a dozen drivers for driving with a suspended license or not having one.

Fourteen other people were ticketed for various vehicle violations and 13 vehicles were impounded.

Police are scheduling another checkpoint Tuesday.

The department conducted two checkpoints a month in April and May.

The city’s checkpoints are funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
