To celebrate National Nurses Week this month, Costa Mesa-headquartered West Coast University recently honored three students who won the university’s “Inspirational Nursing Stories” contest.
Top prize went to Chantal Banon, a West Coast University student who attended the Anaheim campus, who wrote, “Why I Chose to Become a Nurse.” She cited her daughter as her inspiration.
“The best part is, now my daughter wants to be a nurse practitioner,” Banon said. “I finally realize how my hard work has paid off because of the example I set for her. I feel like the richest woman in the world.”
Banon won a $200 gift card.
Adrineh Avakian, a student on West Coast’s Los Angeles campus, won the university’s “people’s choice” award for her essay, which garnered the most votes on West Coast’s Facebook page.
Avakian won a $100 gift card.
Rita Mcmillan won a $100 gift card and honorable mention for her essay.
