Program has businesses giving out discounts

The city has partnered with local businesses to launch a six-month pilot program to help consumers shop at local businesses.
Surf City Savings will allow merchants at Five Points Plaza, Bella Terra and Old World Village to offer incentives and discounts to keep retail sales in Huntington Beach.
City Councilman Joe Carchio conceived the program to help the city, which receives 1% of all sales tax on in-city purchases and uses the funds for policing, fire, public works, beaches and parks, library and other services.
To see which merchants are participating, look for the logo sticker at stores or visit surfcitysavings.com.
