BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

NEWPORT BEACH — JB Green, Richard de St. Jean and Hamilton Day had 11 kills each to help the Sailors finish undefeated in the Sunset League Thursday.
Day also had three aces in Newport Harbor’s 25-20, 25-11, 31-29 Sunset League win. Darren Leggett had 21 assists and eight digs, while Kyle Lawrence added 17 assists and four digs for the Sailors (23-7, 10-0 in league).
Cailen Sullivan (five kills), Cameron Holmes (three kills, three blocks) and Michael Maddox (four kills, six digs, one ace) also contributed for Newport Harbor, ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll.
The Sailors end the regular season today at 6:30 p.m. in the Battle of the Bay at Corona del Mar.
St. Margaret’s def. Sage Hill
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Senior outside hitter Bayle Smith led the Lightning with 24 kills Thursday, but rival St. Margaret’s, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division V coaches’ poll, won the Academy League finale, 25-21, 25-19, 27-15.
Sage Hill (15-12, 7-3 in league), ranked No. 6, finished in second place in league.
The Lightning learn who their first-round opponent will be in the CIF Southern Section Division V playoffs on Monday, when the pairings are released.
Harlan Webster finished with eight kills and Michael Bear had 37 assists for Sage Hill.

Sunset League finals
SEAL BEACH — Newport Harbor’s Josh Tuz and Jason Cernius reached the title match in doubles, but lost, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 8-10, at Seal Beach Tennis Center Thursday.
They advance to the CIF Individuals tournament. Daron Arnold and Cameron Chase, the Sailors No. 1 seeded-duo, suffered their first loss of the season, in the semifinals and finished third. They might receive a wild-card entry into the CIF tourney.

CHINO HILLS — Newport Harbor’s Travis Russell finished sixth, just missing the cut for the CIF Individual tournament Thursday at Los Serranos Country Club.
Travis Russell shot one-under-par 71 on the North Course. With his three-over 77 Wednesday he tied with Marina’s Jim Young at 148. Young won a three-hole playoff to grab the fifth and final qualifying spot for the CIF tourney.
Ericson Klein (74-75) finished at three-over 149 for seventh place. Zach Eddy (76-74) totaled 150 for eighth place tied with teammate Mychael Clark (76-74).
Marina’s Jeff Fuzzard (73-69) won the league’s individual title with a four-under 142.

LOS ALAMITOS — The Sailors were eliminated from the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section Orange County playoffs after losing in the quarterfinals Thursday at McAuliffe Middle School.

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior Angela Graham scored the Sailors’ lone run in a Sunset League game Thursday.
Newport Harbor (6-17, 0-8 in league) plays at Edison Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
