UC Irvine 7, UC Davis 0

IRVINE — Freshman No. 1 singles player Fabian Matthews, a Corona del Mar High product, scored a 7-5, 6-0 win for the Anteaters in the Big West Conference match Friday.

Stephen Stege, at No. 5 singles, and Tyler Bowman, at No. 6 singles, both earned three-set victories, winning the third set 10-5 and 10-3, respectively, for UCI (9-13, 3-0 in conference).

Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas — UC Irvine’s Alisha Misiaita and Matt Lahti continued their consistent performances in the throws Friday.

Misiaita finished third in the shot put with a mark of 51 feet, 8 1/2 inches, as Louisville’s Khadija Abdullah won the event at 52-2.

Misiaita broke her own school record the previous week with a mark of 51-9 3/4 at the Cal/Nevada Championships.

Lahti placed seventh in the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 190-9, four inches past his previous best in 2009.

Marcel Lomnicky of Virginia Tech won the event with a throw of 235-3.

MALIBU — Senior Heidi Kaloi produced a 6-1, 6-1 win for the Anteaters in the nonconference match Friday.

UCI dropped to 12-7.
