Writer earns first-team all-league accolades

Laguna Beach High sophomore Emily Writer was the lone Breaker to make it to the first team for All-Orange Coast League girls’ basketball in a recent voting by league coaches.
Sophomore Samantha Garner earned second-team laurels.
Writer, a 5-foot-10 sophomore guard/forward, averaged 22.3 points per game for Laguna Beach. She stunned Costa Mesa to post a school-record 51 points in a 78-57 league victory Jan. 22. She added 10 rebounds and eight steals in that game.
Writer, a second-team honoree last year as a freshman, also scored 32 in a 61-55 victory over Estancia on Feb. 5.
Garner averaged 11.5 points per game for Laguna. She had a season-high 22 points in the first win over Costa Mesa
Laguna finished 3-5 in league, 4-17 overall.
Calvary Chapel senior Amanda Sounder earned league Most Valuable Player honors.
