UC Irvine senior forward Kelly Cochran has been named the Big West Conference’s Best Sixth Woman by her peers in women’s basketball.
Dealing with a nagging injury throughout the course of the season, Cochran saw limited playing time but was a catalyst on both the offense and defense when she came off the bench. She played in 22 of UC Irvine’s 29 contests, starting twice this season. Cochran is third on the team with 4.6 rebounds and fourth in scoring with 6.2 points per game. Over the last three games, Cochran has averaged 12.3 points and 9.3 rebounds, while shooting .545 (12-22) from the floor.
The Best Sixth Woman honor is one of three specialty awards voted on by the league’s players.
UC Irvine will play Cal State Fullerton in the first round of the Big West Conference Tournament today at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center.
