The Laguna Beach Chili Peppers, a girls’ third- and fourth-grade National Junior Basketball team, capped a perfect regular season Saturday by defeating Laguna Hills, 24-14.
Center Grace Snedegar and forwards Aria Fischer and Sophia Lucas powered the Chili Peppers’ inside game in the first half and guards Crystal Curras and Nicole Davidson were able to successfully penetrate the Laguna Hills defense.
In the second half, the Chili Peppers continued to dominate behind the play of guards Kate Kruger and Isabel Mansour, forwards Kirsten Landsiedel and Lexi McKeown and center Jessica Guerinot.
“The secret to our success this year has been our incredibly tough defense, as well as the effort all 10 girls have been giving all year long,” Chili Peppers co-Coach Peter Davidson said.
“I am so proud of the way these girls played the entire season,” Chili Peppers co-Coach Erich Fischer said. “Going undefeated in this league is a tough thing to pull off, and they did it with heart, hard work and teamwork. They should be very proud of what they accomplished this year.”
The Chili Peppers will next compete against other Southland NJB league champions beginning this weekend at the NJB Championship Series.
