MAILBAG:

I couldn’t help but chuckle while reading Chuck Cassity’s rant from Friday (“Some learning experiences worth scoffing at”).

His third bullet point is a veiled swipe at President Obama, and what he actually does is describe George W. Bush to a T.

Our former president had management and executive experience (oil company Arbusto and the Texas Rangers), served in the military (Texas Air National Guard), started a company (Arbusto), held a job in the private sector (again Arbusto) got promoted on his own merit, met a payroll, and hired and fired (again with Arbusto and the Rangers), and lastly signed a check on its face (he most likely has).

Obama is getting his feet wet, and I am willing to give the new president a chance. After all, we’ve seen what the last eight years have brought us with a president who, by Cassity’s standards, was as overqualified as he himself claims to be for the job.

Police might treat you with the same attitude

After being a pampered athlete at Newport Harbor and UCLA, it’s easy to understand the “entitlement” attitude of Brian Theriot (“Public park rangers need to back off,” Feb. 17).

Upset that the Park Rangers would interrupt his football training school and run him off Bob Henry Park, Theriot relocates his operation over to Mariners School and tells Newport to “shove it.”

I would have thought his university education would have taught him the basics of business. Rent: that’s for the area you are utilizing; liability insurance.. If one of your “friends” were seriously injured, would you still tell Newport to shove it? Business license: Yes, Brian, there is no free lunch anymore.

If this is not the case, why not use NHHS’s football facilities? All the equipment is out daily (under lock and key) and closer to Bob Henry Park than Mariners School. Or won’t Coach Brinkley let you use it for liability purposes?

Let me give you a tip: The Mariners School is under the jurisdiction of the Newport Beach Police Department. So next time your business is open at Mariners, don’t be surprised if the police come by and tell you to “shove it.”
