Davis magnet enrollment almost ready, officials say

Those interested in enrolling their children in a planned math and science magnet school at Davis Elementary next year now have a date for enrollment and a phone number to call.
Enrollment for the future kindergarten through sixth-grade magnet school begins March 1, but interested parents can call Barbara Haack at (714) 424-8959 immediately to be added to a list to receive notice about appointments to register.
Parents should not go to the Davis campus to enroll their children, according to a news release from the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
The enrollment form isn’t ready yet, according to district officials, but it is expected to be on the district website at www.nmusd.us by Feb. 23.
Also applying to the school will be its new principal, who will be hired by March 1, district officials said.
School board members voted in January to make Davis Elementary a math, science and technology magnet, since it will no longer be needed as a regular school when all district campuses serve kindergartners through sixth-graders. Board members also voted for the school to have some arts offerings.
