A blood drive, CPR certification and neighborhood preparedness class has been added to this Saturday’s Heart & Hands day of service program sponsored by the Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council, according to Jaimie Day, who is organizing the event.
The neighborhood preparedness class is offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. If you want to donate blood or take the CPR certification class you’ll have to register ahead of time.
Call Cathy at (800) 400-4CPR or e-mail Jaimie Day at [email protected].
Hearts & Hands is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Latter-day Saints Church at 16th Street and Dover Drive, Newport Beach. People of all faiths are welcome. To find out how you can participate call Day at (949) 642-9460.
EXCHANGE CLUB MOVIE BENEFIT
The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor had another hit movie preview benefit on its hands last Thursday at the Lido Theatre with the showing of the new James Bond movie, “Quantum of Solace,” according to Bill Barrington, the club’s Spindrift editor.
Great food from local restaurants started off the evening at 5:30 p.m. along with music from the Ex-Men band. Club member Bob Washer and his son, Greg, received Oscars from Scott Trotter of the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center and the Exchange Club for arranging for the film to be shown at the annual fund raiser.
Last year’s event raised more than $60,000 for Child Abuse prevention, $20,000 for scholarships for students and teachers as well as $5,000 in other contributions to local groups.
This year’s totals have not yet been reported.
WORTH REPEATING
Thought for the Day as provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council ... “Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”
