SOUNDING OFF:

Where’s the beef, Chuck?

The budget is $28 billion short, the governor wants to increase sales taxes by 1½ cents, others want to reinstate the car tax to its historic rate and only raise sales taxes by 1 cent, and others want to cut spending by reducing state aid to education, and reimbursement to medical providers, and the poor, blind and disabled. Where is Assemblyman Chuck DeVore in this discussion? Out raising money for his U.S. Senate challenge to Barbara Boxer.

It is disingenuous and an insult to the voters of the 70th District to elect DeVore only to have him ignore the problems he was elected to solve. Instead, immediately after the election, before the results have even been certified, his only focus is on his own personal political ambitions.

If he wants to run for U.S. Senate, fine! Resign and pay for it himself!

Why should the voters pay his salary while he immediately runs for higher office, without offering any solution to the problems he was elected to solve?

Where is the integrity? Where is our assemblyman? Where is the beef?

MICHAEL G. GLOVER, who served in the Kansas legislature, has twice unsuccessfully challenged DeVore for Assembly.
