A new movie opened this weekend. Oliver Stone, that Fidel-loving, drug-abusing, history-revising director has released “W,†a docudrama (whatever that means) about President George W. Bush.
This movie, so far as I know, is the first released about a sitting president. But it’s not the first to be released just before — and with the clear intent of swaying — a national election.
That lovable butterball Mikey Moore has that dubious distinction.
I wonder if there are enough people in Hollywood, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Berkeley, Portland, Seattle, New York City, Boston, Vermont and the halls of academia for this movie to turn a profit. God, I hope not.

Obama’s tax plan won’t work
Barack Obama claims that his tax plan will provide a federal income tax cut for 95% of Americans.
But 40% of Americans pay zero federal income tax. How does Obama plan to “cut†their federal income tax? By issuing them a check the rest of American taxpayers will pay for with increased federal tax on our income. Let’s see now. People who pay no tax will be compensated for paying no tax by a refund check for taxes they do not pay.
Obama’s only justification for such a ludicrous scheme is that he wants to “spread the wealth around.†It is just a new take on an old idea that has failed elsewhere and it will fail here. “From each according to his ability; to each according to his need.â€
That is at the heart of socialism, folks. Don’t buy it.

Fliers ignore Rosanky’s contributions to our city
Know the facts! I feel compelled to write this e-mail after seeing a flier that bashes Steve Rosansky as Steve “halfway house†Rosansky.
What upsets me is that the author/authors have such little integrity that they won’t sign their name. I am sure they know the real facts, but choose to ignore them fulfill their “conspiracy theory†rampage.
The truth is that Rosansky once provided property-management services to a property owner whose tenant worked in the drug rehab industry. What they don’t mention is that Rosansky petitioned the state for legislation to restrict rehab homes, helped organize the 80 city conferences on rehab homes, and started a city committee to analyze the issue.
The bottom line is that Newport has the most aggressive ordinance regarding rehab-homes of any California city.
As past president of the Newport Shores Community Assn., I saw first hand the support our community received from Rosansky. Whether getting a stop sign installed, streets repaved, negotiating the purchase of Sunset Ridge, or simply attending our local association meetings when invited, Rosansky has worked tirelessly for our community.
Thank you, Rosansky, for your dedicated service.
