Region 97 Action Keeps Coming

AYSO Region 97 Soccer Action for 9/27/08

United vs. Green Slimeballs (BU10)

United Captains John Shepherd and Jackson Wind led our team during a physical Slimeballs match eventually prevailing 3-1. United opening the lead during the first half on beautiful goals by Jack Pitchess and Jack Sandy. Brady Scanlan and John Rankin applied relentless pressure in the midfield and front line. Lukas Thompson demonstrated textbook first touches when winning the ball. Colin Avary and Shepherd provided tough man to man coverage and were key in shutting down a high powered offense. Lucas Mowery shared goal tending duties with Sandy and courageously challenged attackers throughout the match. Wind put the game out of reach late in the fourth quarter by slotting a ball into the lower right side of the net helping to earn him this week’s Game Ball honors. All the boys worked hard for each other and were United.

Lemonades vs. Striking Bolts (GU10)

The fog was thick in the game between the Lemonades and the Striking Bolts. The first quarter was a defensive battle by all. The Bolts struck first with a goal midway in the second quarter. The Lemonades evened up the score just minutes later, with a booming goal by Hannah Joyce. With the score knotted at the half, the Lemonades came out in the third quarter with stellar defense from Megan Keys, Julianna Eifler, and Bailey Scalzo. The Lemonades offense came alive. Sam Ludes, Tara Hurley, and Molly McCunniff showed textbook passing abilities, and got the ball to Brooke Hinton, for another powerful goal. Going into the fourth quarter, the Lemonades got great defensive pressure from Kira Wandrocke, Destiny Ubert, Sienna Keillor, and Natalie Satchell to keep the Bolts off the board. The Lemonades were far from finished, with huge goals from Hannah Joyce, and Julianna Eifler in the fourth quarter to seal a victory for the Lemonades. Great job girls’

The Pink Panthers (GU07)

The Pink Panthers played another brilliant game on Saturday. Lily Shea played well with some strong starting kicks and overhead throws. Her tenacity paid off toward the end of the 4th quarter when she faked left, turned right and scored a goal! Allison Woodward played awesome defense and showed her soccer skills with endless interceptions. Bella Swart was motivated and on fire. She attempted to score and played some determined defense. Lauren Dewan charged down the field throughout the game with speed and great ball control. Zoe Ziebarth had fans enthusiastically cheering in support of her daring break-a-ways. As always, Isabelle Searles displayed her fantastic ability to get in front of the ball and quickly throw the ball overhead from the sidelines. As goalie, Posey DiPaola’s showed her friends what teamwork is all about and stopped every ball within reach. Gretchen Hohenstein’s aggressive charging down the field gave the Pink Panthers excellent control of the game.

Bumble Bees vs. Ladybugs (GU06)

Talia Baia and Jenna McConnaughey both scored goals. We had assists from Zoey Gaddis and Lilly Warmington. The girls all had fun.
