Wirt earns GSAC weekly honor

Vanguard University junior Kelsey Wirt has been named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women’s volleyball.

Wirt, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, had a combined 23 kills, 17 digs, four block assists and three service aces in the Lions’ GSAC sweeps over Concordia (Sept. 23) and Hope International (Saturday).

Vanguard improved to 11-1, 6-1 in conference, with a sweep of The Master’s Tuesday. The Lions moved up in the NAIA poll from No. 10 to No. 8 this week and have won five straight matches, four by sweeps.

Vanguard will face its biggest challenge of the season tonight, when it visits No. 1-ranked Fresno Pacific (15-0, 7-0), at 7.

Wirt had 12 kills and hit .565 with seven digs, four assists and three aces against No. 3-ranked Concordia.
