Corona del Mar resident part of event against ALS

BEVERLY HILLS — Augie Nieto, a Corona del Mar resident, was among celebrities and former sports stars for the third annual Tradition of Hope Gala, an event that raises money and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Saturday night at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Basketball legend Magic Johnson, NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott and sports radio personality Jim Rome were among those scheduled to attend and support Nieto’s cause: Augie’s Quest, an initiative named for the fitness industry leader who has been fighting the disease since 2005.

Johnson was honored at the event with the first Vision Award, which was presented by Eric Scoggins, a former San Francisco 49er who was diagnosed with ALS last year. The award is the namesake of Eric’s Vision, the title of Scoggins’ own effort to fight the disease in conjunction with Augie’s Quest.
