Dean Livingston’s Aug. 14 letter missed the point of why Republicans belittled Barack Obama’s plan to reduce gas prices. It was not because of his plan to inflate tires; it was because tire inflation was essentially his entire program for dealing with the $4-per-gallon gas crisis.

Of course, Obama, as usual, held up his finger to test the winds of public opinion and just a few days later adopted McCain’s plan for offshore drilling and nuclear energy with multiple poison pill conditions.

Livingston must get a juvenile satisfaction in calling the Republicans “stupid.”

But he really needs to present a logical argument to defend his point instead of using the device of those without valid points: the ad hominem attack.

Rohrabacher’s office proves to be helpful

I wanted to tell all the senior citizens in Huntington Beach that Rep. Dana Rohrabacher’s office is here to help us!

For the last nine months, I’ve had an unfixable, ongoing problem with Social Security.

In desperation, I wrote to my congressman, Dana Rohrabacher. Immediately, Rohrabacher’s staff member, Fadi Essmaeel, responded and came to my rescue and assured me he’d get to the bottom of this mess and fix it.

He estimated it would take him about two weeks to solve a problem I’ve been losing my mind over for nine months.

I’m elated to tell your readers, my problem is now fixed. In two weeks, just as I was assured by Essmaeel in Rohrabacher’s office.

This is an open letter to say thank you, Fadi, and thank you, Mr. Rohrabacher for being so responsive and for actively being on the job!

I would like to tell all seniors in Huntington Beach, remember this when our elections come around and put your ‘x’ beside the name who has proven to be a senior advocate: Dana Rohrabacher.

Recycling center could go in front of store

No, I do not agree with the decision against the recycle center, but I can understand the wish not to have it behind the store.

What I don’t understand is how the landlord and store can refuse it if it is state law — and why putting it in front is not an option. It is that way at other centers. We are not getting the whole story here.
