Carlson settles for silver

Jeff Carlson, a recent Corona del Mar High graduate, along with Tony Ciarelli captured the silver medal in the SWATCH Federation Internationale de Volleyball Youth World Championships in Hague, Netherlands Sunday.
Carlson and Ciarelli, the 19th seed, reached the final of the division for players under the age of 19 in the beach volleyball tournament.
The American duo lost to Estonia’s Kristo Kollo and Oliver Venno, 21-17, 21-16 in the championship match. Carlson and Ciarelli, who are both incoming freshmen for USC and started playing together just a month ago, ended the tournament with an 8-2 record with its only other loss to the U.S. pair of Maddison McKibben and Will Montgomery during pool play of the main draw.
