Good Shepherd Cemetery to add mausoleum

The Diocese of Orange is scheduled to break ground Monday morning on an $8.5 million project to build a mausoleum at Huntington Beach’s Good Shepherd Cemetery.
“This sacred burial space will allow our diocese to continue to meet the growing needs of our Catholic community,” said Tod Brown, the Bishop of Orange. “As burial space continues to become more limited, our careful planning will allow us to fulfill the essential need for Catholic interment space within Orange County.”
Construction on the mausoleum is scheduled to be complete by July 2009; the facility will include 1,998 crypts and 1,300 cremation niches.
The project to build the mausoleum at Good Shepherd is the second in the Diocese’s long-range plan to create more Catholic interment space. The building of Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest was completed in March of 2007 and cost $3.7 million.
