ALHAMBRA — Bradley Fisher, Ely Zaidler and Danny O’Neil were once again the strength of the Estancia High boys’ tennis team Thursday at Mark Keppel High.
The three players swept in singles, helping lead the Eagles past the Aztecs, 13-5, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.
Zaidler, a junior, swept at love.
“He just played amazing,” Estancia Coach Rachel de los Santos said.
The Eagles coach especially enjoyed her doubles teams’ play.
“I liked that our doubles teams stepped up,” she said. “Too many times it’s been all singles. It was all singles today as well, but it was nice to get those four doubles wins.”
Seniors Chris Koreerat and Nick Oliver earned two wins at No. 1 doubles, as did the No. 2 doubles team of junior Rony Argueta and sophomore Kevin Thomas.
Estancia (12-5) will play host to Santa Ynez in the second round Saturday at 3 p.m. The Pirates (14-5) defeated Mayfair, 12-6.

IRVINE — Newport Harbor High juniors Daron Arnold and Josh Tuz won the lone Sailors set in doubles in the first-round CIF Southern Section Division I playoff match Thursday at University High.
The Trojans, the top-seeded team in the draw, are also the defending Division I champions. They won 54 of 57 singles games against the Sailors.
“We knew what we were up against,” Newport Harbor Coach Kristen Case said. “We were already happy with our season, so we went out today to have some fun.”
Case said she was proud of the way her team fought in a tough Sunset League, eventually finishing fourth. And, another positive was that all the seniors — John Hutchinson, McKenna Duley, Taylor Friend, Ryan McKennon and Michael Gracia — got a chance to play Thursday.
“They wanted to finish their senior year on a good note,” Case said. “They did a good job of keeping the team up all season long.”
Newport Harbor finished with an 8-8 record.
