Treat Mom to brunch

That most popular of Mother’s Day portmanteaux, brunch, will be put on by Laguna’s top restaurants Sunday.

Mozambique Restaurant, 1740 S. Coast Hwy., (949) 715-7777, will hold a special brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; reservations are recommended.

The brunch is $48 per person; the price for kids 12 and younger is $18.

There will be a prime rib carving station; seafood; salad; vegetables; an omelette bar and waffle station; and a “dessert extravaganza.”

At Hush, 858 S. Coast Hwy., (949) 497-3616, a $49 prix-fixe menu includes choices of starters, main dishes and desserts. A $16 kids menu is available.

Starters include a romaine salad, tomato soup and grilled shrimp. Entrees include brioche french toast, a chef’s omelet, crab cake salad, eggs Benedict and filet mignon with ratatouille.

Desserts include mascarpone chocolate cake, beignets or a sorbet duo.

At the new Nirvana Grille, a $35 brunch includes juice, soda, coffee or tea; a $45 version includes two glasses of champagne or two mimosas.

Starters include a seasonal fruit bowl, banana brulee oatmeal, salmon, cauliflower and goat cheese gratin, strawberry salad, spinach salad or tomato and corn soup.

Entrees include brioche french toast; vegetable souffle; eggs Benedict; salmon and potato pancakes; crab cakes; eggplant, chicken, steak or halibut sandwiches; prawn salad; and salmon salad.

Sapphire, 1200 S. Coast Hwy., (949) 715-9888, will hold a three-course prix-fixe menu for $55, served from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Following a starter of marinated jumbo shrimp, diners will have their choice of eggs Benedict, peach Melba pancakes, Cobb salad, chicken saltimbocca, mahi mahi or beef tenderloin.

Desserts range from cinnamon-glazed apricot to strawberry shortcake to tiramisu.

At French 75, 1464 S. Coast Hwy., (949) 494-8444, a $45 brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fee includes an aperitif such as a kir royal or bellini and hors d’oeuvres like apple beignets, shrimp en cassolette, crab cocktail, fruit salad, tomato bisque, ahi tartare or butter lettuce Roquefort.

Entrees range from a petit filet, eggs benedict, crème brûlée French toast, sea bass, Cobb salad, a wild mushroom scramble or steak.

Dessert options include a chocolate soufflé, raspberry coulis, a chocolate milk shake, apple brown betty or orange and vanilla creme brulee.

Laguna Culinary Arts, 845 Laguna Canyon Road, (949) 494-4006, is offering a chef-run Mom’s Night Out at 4 p.m.

The menu includes Maine lobster salad, filet mignon and molton chocolate cake, and is $190 for two or $230 with wine pairings.
