Edison faces tough road in quest to repeat

The Sunset League race boils down to a trio of opponents for the Edison baseball team.
Standing in the way of defending the Sunset League championship are three teams, Los Alamitos, Esperanza and Fountain Valley, who the Chargers will face in the coming weeks.
The road to a possible title continues at 3:15 p.m. Friday with a home date against league-leading Los Alamitos. After that, Edison takes on Esperanza and Fountain Valley, teams also in the thick of the chase for a league title and playoff berth.
Edison (6-3 in league) began the week trailing Los Alamitos (7-2) by a single game in the league standings.
“The two main goals for this team are within reach, and that is to make the playoffs and win the Sunset League,” Chargers Coach Steve Lambright said.
“I’m happy with where we are. We’ve made tremendous progress since the start of the season and we’ve positioned ourselves to reach our goals.”
Also on tap in Sunset League action Friday is Marina which travels for a 3:15 p.m. game at Esperanza.
Seahawks have eyes set on league crown
Ocean View can move a step closer to another Golden West League title Friday (3:15 p.m.) when the Seahawks host Saddleback.
Ocean View led the league standings entering the week.
“Saddleback could be a dangerous team,” Ocean View Coach Shane Borowski said. “They have found a new pitcher (Randy Villegas) who is doing well for them and they are playing good ball behind him. We really can’t allow ourselves to be lulled to sleep by their record. We need to come out and play aggressive baseball and really take it to them.”
Senior Sean Burleson will start for the Seahawks Friday.

Playoffs not out of the equation for Oilers
Huntington Beach needs to win five of its next six Sea View League games and get a little help from other teams, as the league season heads into its final weeks.
The Oilers take that first step toward a possible playoff berth Friday (3:15 p.m.) at Northwood.
Huntington, which is in third place in the standings, has lost four one-run games in league play.
“All we need to do is take care of our own business,” Huntington Coach Benji Medure said. “We really can’t worry about anybody else other than ourselves.”
Key softball games ahead for locals
In softball action at 3:15 p.m. today, Edison plays a key Sunset League game at Marina and Huntington plays at 3:30 p.m. in a Sea View League game at Trabuco Hills.
At 3:15 p.m. Friday, Ocean View will attempt to continue its dominant run in the Golden West League when the Seahawks host Santa Ana.
