UC Irvine junior right-hander Scott Gorgen has been named Collegiate Baseball “Louisville Slugger” National Player of the Week and Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week after logging his seventh-career complete game, tossing a one-hit shutout against San Francisco Friday in a 4-0 victory.
Gorgen struck out a career-high 12 batters and issued just one walk to improve to 2-0 and has pitched 15 straight scoreless innings. He opened the game striking out five of the first six batters he faced before yielding a single in the top of the third. He then retired the next 19 straight batters and faced just two over the minimum.
Gorgen is holding opposing teams to a .043 batting average.
This is the first time Gorgen has received the weekly award from Collegiate Baseball and fourth time from the Big West.
The Anteaters (7-0), off to their best start in history and ranked 13th this week by Collegiate Baseball, play host to San Diego tonight at 6.
