Sewer pipe blockage causes spill into Newport Harbor
- Share via
Orange County health officials closed a segment of Newport Harbor on Wednesday to all swimming and diving because of a sewage spill earlier in the day.
Roughly 100 gallons of sewage leaked into the harbor, causing officials to close all beaches for 300 feet of Beacon Bay between Cutter Road and Ketch Road.
The spill was caused by a blockage of sewer pipe in Newport Beach, county spokeswoman Deanne Thompson said.
Notification of the spill was sent out by the Orange County Health Agency at about 2:30 p.m.
The area will be closed until further notice.
