Students on holiday breaks

Schools out — forever!
Well, maybe the kids in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District would like to share Alice Cooper’s sentiment, but they only get a couple of weeks off.
Friday was the last day of the year for the public schools. Students will return from their winter break on Jan. 7.
When they get back they’ll hit the books again as they prepare for the Standardized and Testing Reporting program in April and May.
All children from second to 11th grade will be tested on math, English and other subjects, depending on their grade level. The tests will determine whether children are learning subjects required by the state.
