Nature center hosts winter kids camps

Kids looking to add a little adventure to their winter break need look no further than the Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach next week.
The center is offering two, three-day camps for kids over the winter break, one for kids from kindergarten to second grade and another for third- to sixth-graders.
The Critter Caravan for kids from kindergarten to second grade will let them explore the Earth from the depths of the ocean to the highest mountain peak, from deep inside caves to the skies above the clouds. Including hands-on activities, games, crafts and art projects, students will learn the importance of the natural world around them.
The camp’s first session starts at 9 a.m., Monday.
For the slightly older bunch, the center is helping them learn their wilderness survival skills, just like native Californians did thousands of years ago. Students will build a waterproof shelter and play games to improve their animal-tracking techniques. The camp’s first session begins at 9 a.m., Monday.
Both camps have second sessions beginning Dec. 31.
Each camp costs $175 or $157.50 for center members. For more information call (949) 645-8489.
