Wings fly away from Thunder

The Wings broke away from a close battle with the Thunder in a Lemieux Division match by scoring seven goals over the final two periods to score a 9-3 victory at Coast 2 Coast Hockey in Huntington Beach.

Leading the scoring charge for the Wings was Jimmy Hocker, who posted three goals. Also netting multiple goals were Casey Childers and Joel Dapello, who each scored twice. Kyle Betz and Ryan Gallegos each scored once.

Hocker also contributed four assists. Childers, Betz and Ben Piontkowski each had two assists and Joey Mahoney had one assist.

Andrew Skowron had 21 saves.

Michael Gutierrez led the Thunder in scoring with two goals. David Schenker scored once and Justin Cutchon and Omar Tepayotl each had an assist.

Corey Jones recorded 32 saves.

In other Lemieux Division action:

Magnum 3, Patriots 2

Anthony Thompson and Michael Thistle each posted a goal in the third period and the Magnum defense didn’t allow a goal down the stretch in defeating the Patriots.

Aaron Nguyen also scored and Thompson added an assist.

Brandon Jones had 29 saves.

Chelsea Griffith and Matt Korn scored for the Patriots, Brooke Easton had an assist and Ryan Harrison had 34 saves.

In Campbell Division action:

Mad Dogs 7, Rangers 4

The Mad Dogs jumped out to a 5-1 first-period lead and went on to beat the Rangers.

Jackson Wozniak scored three goals and Geoffrey Campbell had two to pace the Mad Dogs on offense. Single goals were scored by Slater Miller and Matthew Gomez.

Hunter Barrett assisted three goals, Miller had two assists and Katrina Manalac had an assist

Jake Gealy finished with 12 saves.

Andre De Carlo scored three of the four Rangers’ goals with the other going to Shane Sandoval. Cole Geller finished with a team-best three assists and De Carlo and Natalie Olaes also had an assist.

Connor Mellema had 11 saves.

Hockey Monsters 6, Jaguars 4

Will Miller scored three goals, Jake Arnold had two goals and an assist and Levon Lester scored once with an assist, as the Hockey Monsters turned back the Jaguars.

Connor Karns had seven saves.

Kameron Christi and Trent Berkenkamp each scored twice for the Jaguars. Nick Torres and Dylan Peterson each had an assist and Maverick Knight recorded 18 saves.

Lightning Blades 4, Hot Shots 3

A goal by Emma Ziegler, off a feed from Jake Coon with a minute to play, broke a tie score and lifted the Lightning Blades to victory.

Ben Welinder, Ryan Gehris and Zeke Ziegler also scored and Welinder and Spencer Andrew each had an assist.

Joseph Loya had 11 saves.

Jordon Corwin scored twice and Wyatt Benson once for the Hot Shots. Getting assists were Joshua Gramajo who had two and Ryan Armstrong and Josh Husting with one apiece.
