NEWPORT BEACH — Senior forward Kyle Caldwell scored a career-high 40 points in the nonleague game Wednesday night.

He was just two shy of the Newport Harbor single-game record of 42.

Caldwell hit five three-pointers while blazing a new career benchmark. Sophomore Cecil Whiteside added 10 points and Max Volz had seven for Newport Harbor.

The Sailors (4-1) play against Newport-Mesa District foe Costa Mesa Monday in the Irvine World News tournament at 5:30 p.m. at Woodbridge High.

IRVINE — Lightning senior Preston Oklejas had a team-high 20 points in the nonleague game Wednesday at Beckman High.

Senior Connor Rose added 10 points and a pair of three-pointers for Sage Hill (1-4). Senior Nick Witte, playing in his first game after the football season, had seven points and also made a pair of three-pointers.

The Lightning play host to Flintridge Prep on Friday at 7 p.m.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Junior guard Brittany Rhyme had a team-high 10 points for the Sea Kings in their pool-play opener at the Brethren Christian Tournament on Wednesday.

Freshman guard Ellie Nadal added eight for the Sea Kings (2-2), who were behind by 11 at halftime. Corona del Mar cut its deficit to two points with a minute left, Coach Mark Decker said, but couldn’t get closer.

Corona del Mar plays Upland today at 6 p.m. in continued pool-play action at the tournament.

NEWPORT BEACH — Seniors Josh George and Cameron Rausch, as well as junior Eddie Garcia, all stayed undefeated for the Sailors in their dual meet Wednesday at Newport Harbor High.

At 145 pounds, George improved to 9-0 with a technical fall win. Rausch won a close match in the heavyweight class to improve to 9-0, while Garcia (135) won, 10-8, to improve to 6-0 on the year.

Also earning wins for Newport Harbor (7-2) were junior Blake Alonso (130), and seniors Josh Lithgow (160), Guillermo Perez (189) and Aaron Labrano (215).

Newport Harbor will compete at the Andrew Pena Tournament at Irvine High on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
