Local cancer nonprofits to receive grants to find cure

More than $1 million in grants will be awarded Friday to 23 local nonprofit organizations helping to find a cure for breast cancer.

The Orange County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, based in Costa Mesa, will host its first Community Grants Award Breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, 17900 Jamboree Road.

Organizations receiving grants include Breast Cancer Survivors, a group providing financial assistance to breast cancer patients in treatment, the Orange County Breast Cancer Coalition, which provides resources and information to breast cancer patients and survivors throughout the county, and the Pink Ribbon Club Foundation’s project to help increase teen awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

“This year, instead of allocating funds behind the scenes, we wanted to publicly recognize and honor the many diverse local groups that do so much in the fight against breast cancer,” said Lisa Wolter, executive director of the Komen for the Cure Orange County affiliate, said in a written statement.

Tickets are $12 per person or $120 for a table of 10. For reservations, call (714) 957-9157.
