LIDO 14 CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS:Gaudio leads way in gold flight

NEWPORT BEACH — Mark Gaudio finished the first day of the Lido 14 Class Championships in first place in the gold flight Tuesday afternoon with finishes of 5-1-2-2, while defending national champion Stu Robertson took second.
Robertson, a Huntington Beach skipper who has won the last three national championships, had finishes of 12-2-1-1, followed by Kim McRae of Newport Beach, who took third with 1-3-11-6.
Renee DeCurtis swept the silver flight regattas with four first-place finishes while Jim Sterner finished second, followed by Roy Woolsey in third.
Wind speeds topped out at 7-8 knots Tuesday afternoon, with speeds of 4-5 knots in the morning.
The final day of racing kicks off today at 10 a.m. at the Newport Harbor Turning Basin adjacent to Newport Harbor Yacht club and Lido Island.
