Actress/singer Tia Carrere to perform at Borders

Many people know her as the girl from “Wayne’s World,” but actress Tia Carrere is coming to Costa Mesa today to promote her singing career, with the recent release of “Hawaiiana,” a collection of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music.

Carrere will be performing and signing copies of the new album, which premiered at No.13 on Billboard’s Top World Albums chart, at 3 p.m. at Borders bookstore, 3333 Bear St.

Carrere, a Hawaiian native, collaborated with Grammy winner Daniel Ho on the album. In addition to mixing and mastering “Hawaiiana,” Ho lent the smooth sounds of a Hawaiian slack key guitar and ukulele.

In the coming months, Carrere can be seen on the new season of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and FX’s “Nip/Tuck.”
