SHORT TAKES:Beach culture, charity projects continue

Singer, songwriter and surfer Todd Hannigan will share his gentle melodies at the Lido Theatre tonight for the second installment of Live Catch, a summer concert series founded last year by Newport Beach brothers Britton and Chase Caillouette.
The series aims to evoke the laid-back vibe of the city’s beach culture while giving back to the community and the world.
A percentage of the proceeds will support social and environmental organizations such as Share Our Selves and 1% for the Planet.
“Surf music for us is one of the cooler, more local products,” Britton Caillouette said. “We wanted the series to be kind of a homegrown, locally centered, not-for-profit venture.”
Hannigan will be joined by Escalera and the White Buffalo for tonight’s show, which begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the box office or online at www.livecatchmusic.com. The Lido Theatre is at 3459 Via Lido in Newport Beach.
