Veterans memorial to receive official dedication

Costa Mesa’s veterans memorial will be officially dedicated in a public ceremony at 10 a.m. Aug. 5.
The memorial at Harbor LawnMount Olive Memorial Park, 1625 Gisler Ave., Costa Mesa, was built earlier this year and includes a walkway lined with engraved bricks bearing the names of donors to the memorial.
The idea came from Bud Hohl, a city resident and veteran of the Marines, who began working in 2000 on replacing an old cannon at the cemetery with something grander. Another military veteran, Victor Bakkila, came up with a new design and helped get donations to pay for the memorial.
Costa Mesa Assemblyman Van Tran will give the keynote speech. Those who want to attend are requested to call (714) 754-4590 by Monday.
