SHORT TAKES:Kids invited to sign up for Junior Firefighters Camp

Newport Beach Fire Department officials are still on the lookout for kids to join the Junior Firefighters Camp this summer.

Children 9 to 13 years old are invited to sign up for the camp, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon three days a week starting today through Aug. 29 at Mariners Park in Newport Beach.

Newport Beach firefighters will teach the kids basic fire safety and first aid and will offer a brief introduction to firefighting tools and skills, including how to operate a fire hose.
