SHORT TAKES:Police continue search for armed robbery suspect

Costa Mesa police continue their search for the man involved in an armed robbery Saturday in Costa Mesa.

The man walked into the Quick Corner Deli at 612 West Baker St. with a handgun and robbed the clerk, taking about $400 and a bottle of vodka before fleeing in a silver car, police said.

The man was seen getting on the 55 Freeway.

Soon after, an off-duty lieutenant spotted the vehicle and proceeded to chase the vehicle in his car until it crashed into the curb at the corner of Victoria Street and College Avenue. The suspect fled the car, leaving behind a female passenger.

Police set up a search perimeter but were unable to locate suspect, police said.

The vehicle’s passenger, Tiffine Eve Loughery, 28, of Costa Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of methamphetamine and possession of dangerous weapons, Sgt. Bob Ciszek said.

Loughery is scheduled to be arraigned today at the Harbor Court Justice Center in Newport Beach, police said. She was being held at Orange County Jail on $100,000 bail.
