Same title, but different Debbie

Debbie Fleming dethroned Ladies Club Championship powerhouse Debbie Albright in the annual tournament at the Newport Beach Country Club June 14th.

Albright won the tournament 11 years running, displaying remarkable consistency.

Fleming displayed strong play all year long and managed to overcome the challenging field. She moves on to represent the club in the Jones Cup Sept. 6.

Completing the championship flight are: first runner-up Fletcher Olson and second runner-up and defending champion Debbie Albright. Joan Furry was first net.

Sandi Coffer, Ann Igata, Tracey Sharf and Brenda Swantko also competed. The winners who were announced at the awards luncheon, were: first flight 1st gross: Linda Maggard; 2nd gross: Karen Knoche; 3rd gross: Judy Wilkerson. First flight 1st net: Norma Ingold. Second flight 1st gross: Irma Grime; 2nd gross: Macara Bonja; 3rd gross: Judy Muncy. Second flight 1st net: Joan Carr. Third flight 1st gross: Kathy Forde; 2nd gross: Karen Whitaker 3rd gross; Linda Thompson. Third flight 1st net: Laura Picking.

Tournament chairman Gail Paoli was unable to play this year but returned to finalize the tournament’s winners.
