Workshop planned for AIDS volunteers
AIDS Care Teams In Our Neighborhoods (ACTION) is planning a workshop for prospective volunteers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church’s Guild Hall in Laguna Beach.
ACTION AIDS CareTeams offer people a volunteer experience by providing practical support and friendship to people living with HIV/AIDS.
Both volunteers and CarePartners (clients) benefit through their involvement on CareTeams.
CareTeams consist of seven to 15 volunteers who join together to support CarePartners — a person or household living with AIDS.
People of all faiths are welcome to participate.
CareTeam activities may include cooking and sharing a meal, social outings, offering friendship and emotional support, birthday parties, light housekeeping, transportation or phone calls.
Although many people living with HIV/AIDS have benefited from new medical treatments, others continue to live with debilitating side effects from potent medications, along with isolation and fear.
As part of our compassionate response to HIV/AIDS, ACTION recruits and trains volunteers for AIDS CareTeams.
To attend the workshop, call or e-mail Karen O’Connell, program director, (949) 683.5683 or [email protected]
