Corona del Mar 4, University 2IRVINE — Katrina Gaar scored on an error to break a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning in the Pacific Coast League game Thursday.
The CdM win, combined with Beckman’s loss to league-champion Laguna Hills Thursday, allows the Sea Kings (13-13, 7-5 in league), to finish tied for second with Beckman in the final league standings.
Since CdM lost two of three games to Beckman, however, the Sea Kings will be the league’s No. 3 representative in the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
Lauren Tolfa earned the pitching victory and her older sister, Michelle Tolfa, picked up her first save of the season.
The CIF playoff pairings will be announced Monday.
