HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP:Mesa sweeps Estancia

COSTA MESA — For the second time this season, the Costa Mesa High boys’ volleyball team defeated rival Estancia, this time, 25-20, 25-16, 25-16, in an Orange Coast League match Tuesday at Costa Mesa High.
Kyle Prevel had six kills and nine digs, Ly Nguyen five kills and six digs for Estancia (3-14, 0-6 in league).
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Corona del Mar def. BeckmanIRVINE — Gus Ellis recorded 14 kills and Dylan Davis had eight in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League win Tuesday.
Jeff Carlson added seven kills, while Phil Bannan (20 assists), Sam Stafford (15 assists), Spencer Brown (13 digs) also contributed for CdM (25-2, 6-0 in league).
Newport Harbor def. EdisonNEWPORT BEACH — Weston Dunlap had 16 kills and four blocks to help lead the Sailors to a 29-27, 22-25, 25-15, 25-16 Sunset League win Tuesday.
Kyle Caldwell had 47 assists, seven aces and six kills, while Tucker Peleuses had 15 kills for Newport (16-11, 4-3 in league).
Sage Hill def. WhitneyNEWPORT COAST — Joey Booth had 15 kills and three blocks to help lead the Lightning to a 22-25, 25-10, 25-14, 25-22 Academy League win Tuesday.
Bayle Smith had 12 kills, Carl Hillgren had three aces and Michael Bear added 28 assists for Sage (9-7, 5-2 in league).
BOYS’ GOLF
Estancia 200, Woodbridge 212COSTA MESA — Pat Flannery and Ryan Knapp shot three-over-par 39s to share medalist honors and lead the Eagles to the nonleague win at Mesa Verde Country Club Tuesday.
Kyle Jones (40), Storm Hagen (41) and Andrew Ayala (41) also contributed for Estancia (17-4).
Newport Harbor 203,NEWPORT BEACH — Andrew Skjonsby, Mychael Clark and Chase Behr each shot four-over-par 40s to lead the Sailors to the Sunset League win at Big Canyon Country Club Tuesday.
Fountain Valley 212
Bryce Greeley (41) and Justin Morehead (42) also scored for Newport (11-7, 5-3 in league).
BOYS’ LACROSSE
Newport Harbor 10, Avalon 6NEWPORT BEACH — Tommy Hanrahan scored four goals and added three assists to help the Sailors win the Sunset League game Tuesday.
Ryan Hanrahan had two goals for the Sailors (8-4, 6-1 in league), who will play for the Sunset League title today at Tustin at 3 p.m. Newport Harbor’s Zack Gagnon had two goals and an assist and goalie Ronnie Dunmore made eight saves.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Corona del Mar 15, Beckman 14CORONA DEL MAR — Addison Hoover scored six goals to help lead the Sea Kings to the win Tuesday.
Adriane Kanezevic and Alex Hoover added four goals, while Zoe Salam had 13 saves for CdM, which also beat Tustin, 16-3, on Monday, led by Alex Hoover’s five goals.
TRACK AND FIELD
Marina 81, Newport Harbor 51 (boys)Newport Harbor 85, Marina 50 (girls)NEWPORT BEACH — Sailors senior Allison Stokke cleared a personal-best 13 feet, 7 inches in the pole vault, lifting the Newport Harbor girls to a Sunset League win Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.
Stokke’s mark is the second-best in California this season, behind only Tori Anthony of Castilleja (13-10).
Junior Cassidy Gayner (400 and 300 hurdles) and seniors Laura Clayton (long jump and triple jump) and Jessica Robson (100 hurdles and high jump) all won two individual events for the Tars.
For the boys, junior Rex Nelson won the 800 meters and 1,600 for Newport in the Sunset League loss.
Nick Nigro was the lone senior scorer for the young Tars (0-5 in league), winning the 400.
Coach Nowell Kay said he was also impressed with sophomore Mike Taylor, who was second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600.
Newport Harbor now prepares for the league preliminaries on Tuesday at Huntington Beach, with the finals scheduled for Friday.

Newport’s boys defeated Marina 112-58 and the girls won, 117-53.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Estancia 10, Calvary Chapel 8COSTA MESA — Ely Zaidler swept at No. 2 singles to lead the Eagles to the Orange Coast League championship Tuesday.
Bradley Fisher won two sets and dropped his first set of the season for Estancia (13-5, 8-1 in league).
