Corona del Mar 1, Chino Hills 0CORONA DEL MAR — Sea Kings junior Trevor Jones threw a complete-game shutout, leading CdM to a first-round win at the Beach Pit Classic on Saturday at CdM.

Jones struck out four and walked one in his two-hitter to improve to 3-0. The Sea Kings (11-3) scored their run in the fourth, when Kevin Holland singled home Michael DiRocco.

Chino Hills fell to 9-6.

The Sea Kings play Aliso Niguel on Monday at 11 a.m. at CdM, in a Beach Pit Classic quarterfinal.

South Hills 5, Estancia 0COSTA MESA — The Eagles were held to just three hits in losing a Beach Pit Classic first-round game Saturday at Estancia High.

Ryan Redding, Eddie Tomasek and Tim Morley hit a single each for Estancia (6-9). Scott McKeen, of South Hills (11-2), pitched a complete-game shutout.

The Eagles play Westlake in a Beach Pit Classic consolation quarterfinal game Monday at 11 a.m., at Estancia.

Sage Hill 5,NEWPORT COAST — J.J. Beruldsen delivered a two-out, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the seventh, lifting the Lightning to a dramatic win Saturday in the third-place game of the Sage Hill Classic.

Capistrano Valley Christian 4

Beruldsen cleared the bases with his timely hit for Sage Hill (5-7), which was down, 4-1, headed into the seventh. He finished two for four with three RBIs.

Chris Griffin was two for two with an RBI for the Lightning, and Patrick Vorwerck reached base three times. Capo Valley Christian fell to 9-2-1.

Sage Hill resumes Academy League play Tuesday, at home against rival St. Margaret’s at 4 p.m.

Woodbridge TournamentIRVINE — Jane Messersmith went three for three with a home run, two runs and two RBIs in Newport Harbor High’s 14-0, first-round win over Cerritos, but the Sailors lost, 5-1, to El Modena in the second round at Bill Barber Park Saturday.

Messersmith, who pitched three innings, and Lauren Talbott combined for a no-hitter in the five-inning victory. Kristin Bassler went three for four with two RBIs and two runs.

Talbott had an RBI-single that scored Casey Lucas, who also had a single, in the fourth inning of the loss. Messersmith struck out eight and walked two.

The Sailors (2-14) resume play in the 32-team tournament on Monday at 5 p.m. when they take on Long Beach Millikan in consolation action at Bill Barber Park.

Woodbridge TournamentIRVINE — Leslee Kazmarek hit a one-run triple to spark Corona del Mar High’s 2-1, first-round win over Villa Park, but the Sea Kings lost to Mission Viejo, 1-0, in eight innings in the second round at Bill Barber Park Saturday.

Michelle Tolfa struck out three and walked none to improve to 6-7.

Despite striking out a season-high 16 times, the Sea Kings (7-8) still had chances to win against Mission Viejo. Tolfa and Katrina Gaar each had a hit in the loss.

Corona del Mar plays in a consolation game Monday at 3 p.m. at Bill Barber Park.
