Foundation holds clean-up event

The California State Parks Foundation will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its annual Earth Day Restoration & Cleanup Program at state and community parks throughout California on April 21.

Community participation is critical as continued funding pressures and a backlog of more than $900 million in deferred maintenance projects threaten the vitality of parks and beaches across the state, Foundation officials say.

Volunteers will complete environmental improvement and maintenance projects in honor of Earth Day “” which is officially on April 22 “” at 43 state and community parks across California, including Crystal Cove State Park.

Individuals or groups interested in volunteering should leave their contact information on the Earth Day Hotline at 1-888-98-PARKS.

At Crystal Cove, volunteers will assist with beach restoration, and plant native coastal sage scrub plants on the beach side of El Moro from 9 a.m. to noon.

Look for signs along the road indicating where to park.

Participants should bring gloves, sunscreen, hat, water and lunch.
