Red Sox use late rally to post win

The Red Sox used a late rally to complete a five-run comeback to defeat the Orioles, 7-6, in Majors Division action at Huntington Valley Little League.

A pair of home runs by Billy Jackson and a run-scoring single by Frankie Calleros allowed the Orioles to forge a 6-1 lead through 3 1/2 innings. But Red Sox began their comeback in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to right-center field by Bobby Tomlinson. They tied the scored in the bottom of the sixth on Cole Frazell’s run-scoring double, then won it on another run-scoring double by Joey Groth.

Minor A Division

The White Sox have opened the season with five straight victories, as they defeated the Rangers (11-5), Dodgers (5-1), Angels (18-2), Cardinals (7-6) and Mets (13-1).

Tyler Murray threw 39 strikes in the win over the Rangers. Pierson Loska hit a home run and McKay Contrucci hit a grand slam to account for all the scoring in the win over the Dodgers. Michael Eliot came up with a key catch at the fence in center field in the win over the Cardinals.

Dodgers 12, A’s 1

Garrett Kelly hit a pair of home runs and Thomas Wade had an RBI single, as the Dodgers downed the A’s.

Kelly, Josh Adams and Curtis Coburn allowed just one run and combined for six strikeouts.

A’s pitchers Eddie Yost, Tyler Audiss and Parker Hauswald combined for 10 strikeouts.

At Seaview Little League:

Angels 11, Mets 3

The Angels capped the first half of the season with an easy win, one that kept them in second place in the division standings with a 4-2 record.

Max Simon, Sam Cooper, Walker Thurston, Erik Barnes, Grant Horton and Devon Reese each took a turn on the mound to help seal the victory. Wyatt Collins, Noah Belkin and Scott Hetrick paced the offense and Adam Hepburn, Truman Bazer and Reed Osaki keyed the defense.

Minor A Division

Twins 9, Cardinals 1

In a battle Saturday between the top two teams in the division, the Twins powered past the first-place Cardinals.

Jack Shearer doubled twice and had two runs batted in. Daniel Amaral doubled and scored a run and Ben Roth, Stuart Morton, JoJo Amaral, Gavin Springer and Andrew DeLoach all had hits for the Twins.

Morton stifled the Cardinals, allowing them just one run and two hits while striking out 10 in four innings. Shearer closed the game and didn’t allow a run in two innings.

A’s 9, Angels 3

Pitchers Grant Mayeaux, Tyler Hammock and Max Gibbs combined on a five-hitter, as the A’s won again.

Mayeaux allowed one hit in three scoreless innings, Hammock gave up two runs on three hits in two innings and Gibbs allowed just one hit in one inning, where the Angels scored again on an unearned run.

Leading the A’s attack was Robert Cornwell with two hits and three RBIs and Mayeaux with a single, double and two RBIs. Also getting hits were Gibbs, Kevin Engesser, Joseph Ratzlaff (double) and Noah Bartos. Hammock and Jacob Baugh also drove in runs.

Luke Fell hit a two-run home run, Dakoda Muta had two hits and Robert Baker and Jon Carlson each had a hit for the Angels.

A’s 5, Cardinals 2

The A’s used a couple of key defensive plays to thwart Cardinal rallies and pick up the win.

In the third inning, pitcher Joseph Ratzlaff knocked down a hit to the mound that led to a double play. The Cardinals had loaded the bases with nobody out but couldn’t push a run home in the inning. In the fourth, the Cardinals had a runner at first base but Kevin Engesser of the A’s made a diving stop of a ball headed toward center field and turned it into a double play to end the threat.

Ratzlaff threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.

Grant Mayeaux had a double and single and Engesser, Robert Cornwell, Tyler Hammock and Noah Bartos each singled for the A’s.

Ben Drolet doubled and singled, Mateo Simington doubled and Keith Butler and Leland Morehand singled for the Cards.

Minor B Division

Orioles 7, Mets 5

Hagen Danner hit his third home run of the season and Nick Pratto connected on his first homer, as the Orioles defeated the Mets.

Jacob Cable, Michael Primich and Brady Earwood had RBIs for the Orioles. Danner and Pratto also pitched the final four innings and combined to strike out nine while allowing one run.

Jack MacDowell had two RBIs and a run for the Mets.
