GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Corona del Mar 102,LAGUNA HILLS — Senior Stephanie Gabert, junior Allison Peotter and sophomores Kelsey Larson and Sarah Furgatch, all swimming in their first dual meet of the season, each produced CIF qualifying times in their respective events to help lead the Sea Kings to the Pacific Coast League win Wednesday.
Laguna Hills 68
Gabert won the 200-yard freestyle in a CIF-qualifying 1 minute, 55.13 seconds. She also won the 500 free in 5:11.52, also a CIF-qualifying time. Larson’s victory in the 200 individual medley (2:14.04), Peotter’s win in the 50 free (25.39), and Furgatch’s triumphs in the 100 free (54.26) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.37) also qualified for CIF.
Larson and Furgatch had been competing in the junior nationals. Gabert was getting over knee surgery and was involved in a car accident last week. Peotter was nursing an injured shoulder suffered during the water polo season.
Senior Chelsea Pike finished second in the 200 free with a CIF-qualifying time of 1:57.76.
Corona del Mar was without Heather Van Hiel (injured shoulder) and Paige O’Brien (illness), Coach Doug Volding said.
The Sea Kings (3-0, 2-0 in league) face Irvine at Corona del Mar April 4. Renovation on CdM’s pool, that was expected during this season, has been postponed to begin in late May, Volding said.

SOFTBALL
Corona del Mar 10, University 2IRVINE — Holly Van Hiel and Allie Duernberger each had a double in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League victory Tuesday.
Lauren Tolfa pitched through four innings to earn her first win of the season. Her older sister, Michelle, relieved her in the fifth.
CdM (5-6, 3-1 in league) plays at Irvine on Tuesday.

Newport Harbor 5,FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Brett Houten and Nick Svendsen both hit home runs in the Sailors’ come-from-behind Sunset League victory on Wednesday at Fountain Valley High.

Houten and R.J. D’Cruz both had two hits for the Tars (3-8, 1-3 in league), and Harold Levy and Brett Rogers both had RBI singles.
Fountain Valley fell to 2-8, 0-4 in league.
Newport Harbor plays host to Marina on Friday at 3 p.m.

University 5, Corona del Mar 1CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings were shut out until the seventh inning in a battle for first place in the Pacific Coast League on Wednesday at CdM.
Kevin Holland singled home Michael DiRocco for the only run for the Sea Kings (8-3, 3-1), who saw their eight-game winning streak snapped.
Kazuki Saito pitched the complete game and gave up just three singles for Uni (6-4, 3-0).
CdM plays host to Irvine on Tuesday.

BOYS’ GOLF
Estancia 204, Westminster 289HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Eagles’ Pat Flannery and Ryan Knapp were co-medalists with four-over-par 39s, helping Estancia to a Golden West League win Wednesday at Meadowlark Golf Club.
Also scoring for the Eagles (9-2, 6-0 in league) were John Person (40), Drew Bertoni (43) and Kyle Jones (43).
Estancia plays Northwood in a nonleague match today at Mesa Verde.
Sage Hill def.DANA POINT — The Lightning’s Geoff Grant shot 43 to earn medalist honors in the Academy League match at Monarch Beach Golf Links’ par-36 course Wednesday.
Capistrano Valley Christian
Sage Hill shot a team score of 235. Capistrano Valley had just four golfers to score and forfeited the match. Ryan Babbush (44), Mac Mace (47), Steven Choi (49), James Chai (51) helped the Lightning improve to 8-2, 7-1 in league.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Whitney def. Sage HillANAHEIM — Bayle Smith had a team-high 27 kills for the Lightning, but Whitney won a marathon 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 17-15 Academy League match at Whitney on Wednesday.
Michael Bear had 39 assists for Sage Hill (6-7, 1-2 in league), which held leads of 10-7 and 14-13 in the fifth game but couldn’t close it out.
“It was a very exciting match, but we didn’t play at a very high level,” Lightning Coach Dan Thomassen said. “We’re going to let this one simmer a little while.”
Sage Hill returns to action on April 10, when the Lightning host rival St. Margaret’s at 5:30 p.m.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Costa Mesa 9, Calvary Chapel 9COSTA MESA — Seniors Ted Lee and Shea Huffman swept their sets at No. 1 doubles in the Mustangs’ Orange Coast League win Tuesday at Costa Mesa High.
