ALL-CIF BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ SOCCER

Two girls’ soccer players from each Sage Hill School and Costa Mesa High earned All-CIF Southern Section honors.

Sage Hill senior midfielder Kara Percival was named first-team Division VI and teammate Ali McLaughlin, a senior midfielder, was named third-team Division VI.

Caitlin Duffy, the Mustangs’ senior defensive stopper, was named second-team Division III and Costa Mesa sophomore forward Ayla Medina was a third-team honoree for Division III.

Duffy’s defense was key to the Mustangs’ fifth consecutive league title, this season in the Orange Coast League, and subsequent trip to the playoffs. Duffy was on the third team last season. Medina led the Mustangs with 19 goals and 12 assists.

McLaughlin and Percival’s play as both a facilitators and scorers on offense helped Sage Hill (12-9-1, 8-2 in the Academy League) to advance to the second round of the playoffs after a second place finish in league. Percival had five goals and five assists in league play.

Corona del Mar High senior Bryan Burke was named first-team All-CIF Division III.

The midfielder led the Sea Kings to the quarterfinals of the section playoffs and a 9-12-2 record. Burke, who will play for the University of San Francisco, was also named Pacific Coast League Offensive Most Valuable Player.
