THE LAST WORD:Advice on Dr. Laura’s boat

Oh, to be a sailor at Orange Coast College.

The community college has long been known for its world-class sailing program. The rewards for gaining such seaworthy respect have been great.

Donations to the school of world-class boats have almost become the norm. And in 2005, the bar was set high, as Roy Disney donated his beloved racing boat, Pyewacket, to the sailing school.

This year, the trend continues as Laura Schlessinger, the on-air radio personality known for giving stern advice, offered up her $2.3-million, 58-foot sailboat to the school.

“It was my baby,” Schlessinger told our reporter. “I put it up for adoption at 10 in the morning on Friday. Now it’s their baby — and it’s a good child. It’s well-behaved.”

Thanks, Dr. Laura.

And a word to the wise for the college’s sailors: Take care of Schlessinger’s baby because as her listeners can attest, it’s not a good idea to make Dr. Laura angry.
