REEL FANS:’Rocky Balboa’ a knockout for audiences

  • EDITOR’S NOTE: For a new Huntington Beach Independent feature, a reporter went to the Century 20 Bella Terra Theaters this week to get moviegoers’ opinions of “Rocky Balboa,” starring Sylvester Stallone, Burt Young, Milo Ventimiglia, Antonio Tarver and Geraldine Hughes.
  • Balboa, the former heavyweight champion, makes a comeback against a new rival after a computer-simulated match declares that he would defeat the reigning champ Mason “The Line” Dixon. Rocky wants to fight his way back in small, local contests, but promoters push him into a rematch of the computer-simulated bout.

“It is the first movie I’ve seen in a long time where I was jumping up and down in my seat. I couldn’t contain my anxiety. I didn’t expect that.”

“I cried, and I didn’t think I would. Sly was so passionate, and I couldn’t believe he wrote the whole thing. It was like old school and new school. So ‘80s.”

“It was a lot better than I expected. I felt like I was watching a fight. I thought the characters were very well developed. It was the best movie I think I’ve seen this season.”
