Here are a few items the council considered Tuesday.
FLASHING CROSSWALKIn an effort to improve pedestrian safety, the city will install a flashing crosswalk on East 17th Street at Raymond Avenue, the council has decided.
Council members voted 4-0 to accept a $133,028 bid for the work from OAK Engineering of Pomona.
Councilwoman Katrina Foley was not at the meeting.
In addition to the flashing crosswalk, the project will include handicap-accessible ramps as well as warning lights and signs alerting drivers to the crosswalk.
WHAT IT MEANS
A flashing crosswalk will be installed on East 17th Street at Raymond Avenue.
MODEL PLANE RULESAfter an hour and a half of discussion and public comment, the council voted 4-0 to adopt new rules regulating model planes flown at Fairview Park. The rules include restrictions on how high the planes can fly and where they can be flown, and a requirement that plane owners show proof of liability insurance and get a city permit for $20 a year. The city hasn’t had formal rules in place before.
Some residents were worried about protecting visitors and amenities at Fairview Park and wanted tighter restrictions, but most model-aircraft fliers at the meeting seemed favorable toward the new rules.
WHAT IT MEANS
Model planes can continue flying at Fairview Park, but they are now subject to new restrictions, and fliers must have liability insurance and get a permit from the city.
